Decentralized Autonomous Worlds: AKASHA's Keynote at ETH Bucharest 2024

ETH Bucharest 2024: Mihai Alisie discusses Ethereum's inception, maximum viable decentralization, legal hacking, and smarter communities.

Decentralized Autonomous Worlds: AKASHA's Keynote at ETH Bucharest 2024

We've returned from an exciting week at ETH Bucharest 2024, the very first Ethereum event held in Romania! 🇷🇴

As the main sponsor, AKASHA was thrilled to connect with some of the brightest minds in the blockchain space, right in the heart of Romania's tech scene.

The entire AKASHA team, including members from our Barcelona Hub, made the journey to be part of this historic event.

Mihai Alisie, co-founder of Ethereum and AKASHA, and a Romanian citizen himself, took the stage to inaugurate the event. His journey in blockchain, which began in his home country of Romania, came full circle as he set the tone for the entire conference. 🚀🎤✨

Key Highlights from AKASHA’s Keynote

  • Ethereum's early days—Mihai Alisie reflected on the early days of Ethereum, sharing insights into the challenges and victories of its inception. He recounted the search for a suitable jurisdiction and the creation of the now-famous "Ethereum spaceship" headquarters.
  • AKASHA's next stepAKASHA Core, an open-source framework for building composable web3 apps, was introduced as a new development tool. AKASHA also set hackathon bounties at the event for the use of Core, and the winning idea was Bubble Breaker, the cool project that wants to get you out of social media echo chambers.
  • The decentralization spectrum—We discussed concepts like "minimum viable decentralization" and "maximum viable decentralization." Takeaway: the different levels of decentralization (technological, decisional, financial, organizational, legal) can be tailored differently to fit the specific needs of projects and communities.
Decentralization is not binary, but a continuum, and the goal for web3 organizations is to achieve the highest degree of decentralization that remains viable and effective. The pink curve represents an organization's typical lifecycle progression, starting from a non-viable centralized state (NonVC), moving through various stages of increasing viability and decentralization. The ultimate aim is to reach the 'MaxVD' (Maximum Viable Decentralization) state in the upper right quadrant, balancing maximum decentralization with high viability.
  • Legal hacking—The keynote also touched on pioneering legal frameworks such as Decentralized Autonomous Associations (DAAs) and Decentralized Autonomous World Associations (DAWAs). These innovations aim to provide robust legal protection for decentralized communities, ensuring they can flourish within a secure and compliant structure.
  • Physical hubs—We highlighted the importance of physical spaces in fostering community growth, showcasing examples from our very own Barcelona Hub.
  • AKASHA @Bucharest—Want to hear some exciting news? Mihai hinted at upcoming developments in Bucharest. Be sure to watch the video to catch all the details! 👀

AKASHA's keynote at ETH Bucharest not only celebrated the 10-year journey of Ethereum, but also offered a forward-thinking perspective on what lies ahead for decentralized communities. To get involved, visit us at AKASHA.org 👋
